Internationalization

Warm welcome to International Relations Office of K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management, we are dedicated to enhancing a vibrant international community and to fostering cross-cultural experience. SIMSR is ideally positioned to build upon its portfolio of International Relations to create a holistic international strategy impacting on, and driven out of, the full range of University level activities. We respect cultural differences and the multiple dimensions of academics and cultivate an inclusive environment.

Internationalisation is an ongoing process at SIMSR and determined to strengthen and expand the International Relations with reputed universities worldwide. This is not only aiming to bring internationalisation and multiculturalism at Institute but also give opportunities to students and faculty to participate and enrich experience of international competency, this holistic approach is to make our students global citizen.

International Relations office is responsible for overall international strategy international activities at Institute. IR office has multilevel and integrated communication network across all institutions at Somaiya Vidyavihar and partner universities in abroad.

Current Collaboration

Somaiya Vidyavihar has academic collaboration with leading universities in USA, Europe, Asia for working together to promote academics, research, experiential learning beyond the scope of an individual university. Enriching connections and strengthening relationship with Partner University is our goal.

july 2017

An lnternational lmmersion Programme was organized for two weeks from 9th july, 2017 to 23rd july 2017. A group of 22 student accompanied by Dr J S Lamba visited DHBW, Stuttgart, Germany and Jwitzerland during the European immersion tour. During the 9 days program, the team lined up 16 different learning experiences or students in the form of factory vísits and interactions with top management of  companies in China

Place Visited: Plant of Mercedez Benz, OHL Plant, United Nations, CERN etc.

 

March 2015

4th International Immersion Program was organised to China and Singapore in Mar 2015. The team of faculty in charge and students visited Shanghai, China and Singapore from 19 Mar 2015 for 10 days. This year the number of students participating was 26. Also the scope was increased to two countries and three cities- China (Shanghai and Hangzhou) and Singapore.

The team visited number of top Companies in China  plus Singapore and seen their factories like SAIC-Volkswagen JV, Baosteel ,Lenovo ,Shanghai Electric, New water plant etc. The team also interacted with top Industry leaders and experts on China/Singapore like Vice President of a Commodity Trading Company, Asia Pacific Head of Branding & Innovation at Kellogg’s, Country Head of Axis Bank in China, Country head of Exim bank in Singapore, Head of TVS group in China, Head of Sourcing in a US MNC based out of China etc. Also visited top retailers like IKEA, Shanghai Urban Planning Museum, Top B–School, Cultural Immersion etc.

The participating 26 SIMSR students were from across various programs (PGDM,PGDM-IB,PGDM- COMM,PGDM-RM,PGDM- FS,PGDM-EXEC, Three year part time program). Prior to the visit the classes were conducted on "Doing Business with China” and discussed various articles/case studies on the companies visited in China. The participating students have actively participated in the learning process by doing prior assignments and asking relevant questions to the experts.

It has been three months of preparation and hard work in fixing up the appointments and organizing this International immersion in Mar 2015 to Shanghai and Singapore.

 

International Immersion Activities

Cultural immersion to appreciate cross-cultural aspects is undertaken. An immersion program or a study tour involves students visiting a foreign country for a period of 7 to 15 days. Structured study tours offer a glimpse into macro-level dynamics and unfamiliar economic environments. Students visit various companies and have meetings with senior industry leaders in the foreign country. Students also undergo classroom sessions on doing business with the particular country and undertake a project.

The following activities are generally a part of such visits:

  • Visit to branch offices and/or manufacturing sites
  • Visit to retail markets to do an analysis of brands for a particular industry
  • Gathering customer insights and appreciate consumer behavior by interaction and observation
  • Meeting representatives of Indian embassy /consulates
  • Meeting representatives of Indian business organizations
  • Understanding Urban Planning and Infrastructure by visiting relevant offices and participating in appropriate focused group discussions
  • Meeting Project Managers of organizations
  • SIMSR has initiated first immersion programs for Shanghai in February, 2013. A second trip to Beijing and Shanghai was in mid September, 2013
  • All PG Executive students undergo an International Immersion program while this is optional for students of other courses.
